Rural Transport Day 2009

2009 was a difficult year, which was compounded by the financial difficulties due to the banking crisis and the world wide recession. In mid 2009 the McCarthy Report which was more commonly known as “An Bord Snip Nua”, recommended that the Rural Transport Programme should be cut altogether to save the Government money, this would have been a disaster for CART.

A campaign to save the Rural Transport Programme began, it galvanised passengers and communities around the country to ensure the programme was not cut. As part of this campaign it was decided to hold a national Rural Transport day to inform the general public and public representatives about the work of Rural Transport Programme.

CART held an event which brought local Councillors, Senators and TD’s together with actual passengers who use the services.
